The School

A splendid 75-year-old neoclassical building houses the Faculty of Nautical Studies of Barcelona: a dynamic, modern research and teaching centre that has high-end facilities and a multidisciplinary team of more than 75 experts in the fields of naval and maritime engineering and the nautical sciences. The Faculty belongs to one of the most prestigious universities in Europe, the Technical University of Catalonia (BarcelonaTech). The integration of the Faculty of Nautical Studies in the UPC allowed for the introduction in 1995 of the Diploma in Naval Architecture (Ship Systems and Propulsion) , which is complementary to the Diplomas in Maritime Navigation and Naval Engineering, Degrees in Nautical Studies and Maritime Transport and Naval Engineering. Since 1991, the Faculty has also taught a doctoral course in Nautical Science and Engineering that has already produced many doctoral graduates. The Faculty of Nautical Studies of Barcelona also has its own facilities in addition to those available in the rest of UPC. These facilities include:

Application form

Remember that all application forms [2] must be approved by the international coordinator of your university.
Documents to be delivered once you arrive at the FNB:
- Certificate of your University confirming you are a Socrates-Erasmus programme student or any accreditation letter from your home institution saying that you are an exchange student, depending on the exchange programme
- Copy of your passport or ID card
- Copy of your European insurance card or similar

• By bus: 14 [3], 17 [4], 36 [5], 39 [6], 40 [7], 45 [8], 51 [9], 57 [10], 59 [11], 64 [12] and 157 [13] pass near the Faculty.
Language
When you reach Barcelona you will notice, that there are two official languages coexisting in a bilingual social context, Catalan and Spanish. In the Faculty of Nautical studies of Barcelona courses are also given in Catalan or Spanish depending on the lecturer’s choice. Although these languages have the same Latin origin and are very similar, the UPC offers both Catalan and Spanish courses so that you can learn the differences and be able to master them in order to follow the different courses successfully.
